Not only was Albert Einstein an accomplished scientist, but he was also some what of a philosopher; his words remain true to this day just like his scientific formulas.

Albert Einstein is arguably one of the most well known scientists in American society; he continues to be admired for his scientific accomplishments and intelligent insight. It is a well known fact that Einstein’s theory of relativity (the equation E=MC2 or energy is equal to mass multiplied by the speed of light squared) is one of man’s biggest scientific accomplishments which continues to affect and perpetuate contemporary science.

In addition to being a world famous scientist, Albert Einstein was also a deep and gifted thinker. Throughout his life he professed many of his beliefs about humanity, the universe, religion and reality. His perspective is worth analyzing simply because it is so radically unique from any other recorded human beings. This article encompasses some of Einstein’s lesser known quotations and explores their modern-day worthiness.

Selected Quotations About Religion and Spirituality From Albert Einstein

  • “All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree.”
  • “True religion is real living; living with all one's soul, with all one's goodness and righteousness.”
  • “There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.”
  • “Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.”
  • ”The high destiny of the individual is to serve rather than to rule.”

Einstein clearly did not perceive the same disconnection between science and religion that has been debated by contemporary society. Instead, he seems to view everything with a lens of equality; acknowledging the similarities and inherent beauty shared by everything.

Selected Quotations About Reality, Intelligence, and Mystery From Albert Einstein

  • “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.”
  • “The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives.”
  • “The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”
  • ”The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.”
  • “To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in science.”
  • “Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person.”
  • ”Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”
  • “Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them.”
  • “One may say the eternal mystery of the world is its comprehensibility.”

Interestingly, Einstein projects an appreciation for traits that are associated with children; valuing imagination, beauty and curiosity both in his internal and external reality. His viewpoint seems to acknowledge and appreciate the simultaneous survival of unbounded intellectualism combined with juvenile naivety. Similar to his quotations about religion and spirituality, Einstein dismisses the paradoxical details which repel two concepts and instead embraces the broad parallels between everything.

Selected Quotations About How Man Should Live Life From Albert Einstein

  • “A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.”
  • “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value."
  • "Without deep reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people.”

Considering the previous three quotations, the last one is particularly moving and thought provoking. Individuals have philosophized about one’s reason for living since the beginning of time. Meanwhile, the fact has always remained that individuals are dependent upon each other in some manner. In one’s mind, this interconnectedness and reliance is often intellectualized and misunderstood; people may believe that they are dependent upon society.

However, Albert Einstein’s quotation unites the individual with the remainder of humanity; revealing how one is neither dependent nor independent from everyone. Rather, one mutually contributes to civilization in an equal proportion as everyone else.
